The equipment you will need for yoga includes a yoga mat, appropriate yoga clothing, and a water bottle. There is some extra yoga equipment that you could also consider including a yoga mat bag, a yoga towel, a yoga strap, a yoga block or brick, and a yoga blanket.
You should wear any nonrestrictive clothing to yoga. This can include specific yoga tops, yoga leggings, a sports bra, shorts, etc. Really, wear anything that allows you to move freely and feel comfortable.
The most important piece of yoga equipment is the yoga mat. Yoga mats allow you to complete your yoga sessions comfortably while completing yoga poses while standing and laying on the ground.

To start doing yoga at home, there a few things we recommend:
– Learn a few basic yoga poses to practice and perfect.
– Listen to your body while completing each yoga pose.
– Try following along to an online yoga class.
– Ensure you are properly equipped with a sturdy yoga mat, yoga block or brick, and comfortable yoga clothes.
In his book “Light on Yoga,” B.K.S. Iyengar advises doing yoga early in the morning or late in the evening, noting that there are advantages to each. “Practice in the morning makes one work better at one’s vocation. In the evening it removes the fatigue of the day’s strain and makes one fresh and calm,” he said.
What to Eat
Fruit and Protein. A piece of high-fiber fruit plus protein, like an apple with nut butter, is a good go-to.
Greasy or Fried Foods.
You always want to practice yoga barefoot so you can fully connect your feet to the mat and the earth, ensuring better balance and strength. Socks interfere with your connection, and they can make it harder to balance.
Using props like blocks or bolsters can make yoga poses more comfortable and help with your alignment. Most yoga studios will have some basic props but in your home practice, these yoga accessories can take up plenty of space and cash. But really you don’t need to buy anything.
A yoga prop is a supportive object used in performing an asana. Using a yoga prop is a great way to practice poses that a beginner may find difficult to perform or for those with less flexibility and/or balance. A yoga prop also helps one remain in a pose for a longer length of time.
Props help practitioners of all levels to gain the sensitivity of a yoga pose while receiving the benefits and not overdoing it. When we give ourselves a little support, our body can unfold gently into the pose. Force is only met back with force, which is counterproductive in our practice.
The sweet spot: 4mm yoga mats
This makes the absolute best material for grip. However, having more than 5mm thickness in natural rubber simply can’t be for a yoga mat – rubber is a heavy, dense material so a thicker natural rubber mat will be way too heavy.
